As I have mentioned, rooms are usually used for multiple things when living in a small space. One common room that is recreated within another room is the home office. In a 1-bdrm space, there are many ways to recreate this space that is not only useful but stylish.

In our space, we decided to turn our eat-in-kitchen into an office (pictured at top). We used our wine bar turned kitchen prep table also into an office desk/bookcase. We simply took out the wineracks to create a bookcase. This one piece of furniture offers tons of uses plus it's sleek and compact. Another great bar (and currently on sale) is the Liam Bar at World Market.

Also check out The Container Store's elfa units. Incredibly functional and available in a range of options, make your own office as big or small was you want or need. I also love the idea of creating a home office out of bookshelves. I found this concealed office idea in Martha Stewart Living.

Thus was the idea home bar designs from Steve K, Halifax, MA: My boyfriend and I use the bars you plan as a guide. We have our own dimension to deal with a tool rather than a Bible. We use a 2x3 for the frame with drywall screws recommended.

We plan dimensions of the framework to be able to match the kegerator, sink, small refrigerator and a lot of desk space. We side bar with 3 / 4 "birch and used molds from Home Depot that we are mitered and assembled with a small tack nails and glue. The counter top is built with 3 / 4" MDFB and formica on it. above was constructed by primarily the same way as bar plans unless we used oak hardwood floors to the top of the plywood.

We chose hardwood floors because we plan to put our own hard wood floor in our living room, so this is a good chance to get some experience (and will not be the end of the world if we mess it up). I should have through the spill, so we built that just like your plan and it really adds a touch of class to the bar and gives a realistic view bar.

We do not use a router for rounding every corner. We both used dowels and sanded them to intervene (as in a birch veneer on the side) or we use prints like the bar through the spill. We want to use the molds Chicago Rail to arm rests instead of brass tubing, but also too expensive, so we mixed the two pieces of molding to make the outside crept across the top.

We bought a lot of brackets used brass foot rail and zinc coated steel pipeline to the foot rail. channel only cost us about $ 13.00 overall, compared with about $ 200 or $ 300 for the brass and I think it looks neat.

We salute the top with seven layers of polyurethane and three layers on the side. We use this new Minwax polyurethane from Home Depot that dries quickly and does not require sanding for the next layer is applied within 12 hours. It works very well for us because we do not have to sand after each coat. Bar your plan is an integral part of the settlement bar. This bar is the first thing we ever built.

Christmas Tablescapes

It's time for Tablescape Thursday and this is our very last TT for the year 2009. Are you looking forward to 2010? I believe 2010 is going to be an awesome year...I just feel it down to my bones. :-)

This past Met Monday, I took you on a Christmas Home Tour through Tricia's lovely, historic, Victorian cottage. During the tour, I teased you with a glimpse of her tablescape and I promised to share it with you for Tablescape Thursday. Were you wondering what the curved white object was...the one just visible in the pic below?


It's her beautiful centerpiece...a lovely Christmas swan. Tricia, if you see this, please leave a comment and tell us more about your swan centerpiece.


Tricia actually had two beautiful tablescapes awaiting her guests. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite...loved them both! I'm crazy about her brown and white transferware!


She cleverly used her beautiful ironstone/creamware collection as a centerpiece. I wish I could have taken some closeups, but on these tours, there just isn't any time for close-ups. (Click on the pic to enlarge for a better view.)

I took pics whenever I could...but unfortunately, picture taking wasn't allowed in all the homes. Pretty much every home on the tour had a tablescape in the dining room. This beautiful table setting with a "Twelve Days of Christmas" theme, awaited us in another home on the tour.


Love the pear place card holders. Do you see the long mirror used in the centerpiece? It really magnifies the sparkle of the lights.

A tablescape in one of the other homes on the tour...sorry about the blurriness. Since part of the tour was a "candlelight" tour, the homes were often dimly lit...plus, I had to hurry along to avoid holding folks up. Sorry to keep whining, but these blurry pics are killing me. (LOL) Isn't the centerpiece wonderful?
